Howden Broking (Howden) has today announced that it has acquired Medical Professional Risk Solutions (MPRS), a specialist insurance broker for the primary care sector, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition adds further expertise to the Health & Care division as Howden continues to invest in specialisms to support clients.
Founded in 2014 by James Dunsby and Chesney Phelps, MPRS is an award-winning insurance broker for medical professionals and healthcare organisations across the UK. It provides accident & health, professional liability, medical malpractice, and commercial combined cover for general practice, private practice and GP federations.
MPRS will join Howden’s existing Health & Care division, bringing extensive knowledge, skills and a unique understanding of the medical profession as the team looks to expand its current offering and expertise. This is an important strategic partnership for Howden at a time when individuals and businesses have placed an increased value on their health as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mark Westgarth, Managing Director, Financial Lines, said: “We are delighted to welcome James, Chesney and the wider MPRS team to Howden. The acquisition of MPRS is consistent with our strategy of growing and creating specialist lines of business and developing our offering for clients.
“The events of the last 12 months have reminded us of the pivotal role both primary and social care providers play in our society. The acquisition reinforces our commitment to these essential services, and we are confident that together we can provide unrivalled support to medical professionals and healthcare organisations right across the UK. We look forward to embarking on this exciting new chapter together.”
James Dunsby and Chesney Phelps of MPRS also commented: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Howden, a business that feels like an instant cultural fit for the MPRS team and a natural home for an independent business like ours to flourish. We share the same approach to client centricity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, which is fundamental to our future success and our clients. The MPRS journey so far has been an exciting one, and we look forward to continuing the successful development of the business within Howden.”
